Assessment of the Implementation of Pakistan’s National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance in the Agriculture and Food Sectors

  26 February 2024

Pakistan’s National Action Plan on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) was assessed in October 2022 using the Progressive Management Pathway on AMR tool. The assessment found moderate coverage (59%), with gaps in governance, good practices, and interventions in non-livestock sectors. Only 12% of the activities were fully executed, and resource constraints hindered scalable and sustainable interventions. The assessment suggests strategic prioritization to optimize limited resources and target critical gaps, such as improving awareness and fortifying regulations for prudent antimicrobial use. Long-term integration of AMR into the country’s health, development, and agricultural transformation agendas is needed for sustainable benefits.
